Discussion

This was the easternmost of 3 spits (with 012AF00100 and 012AF00101) extending eastwards from the western chalk edge of the dry valley. The material removed was a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3), containing 20% chalk inclusions. As can be seen from the plan above, the density of objects increases towards the centre of the valley, while the density of animal bone tails off almost completely. The vast majority of the finds were later Roman pot sherds, with a copper alloy pin fragment also found.
